Hey, Mr. Head Umpire!
"Ask the Umpire" is a great feature. Very informative.
We have a player who uses a larger glove which resembles a first baseperson's glove.
The player plays both 1st & second bases in the same game.
Is there some prohibition against the glove being used at all or, so long as the player plays both positions during the game (or I presume catcher and pitcher), can the glove may be used?
We asked this question of you and you gave an answer, however we wish for there to be consistency and, frankly, avoid problems in the future.
Thanks in advance! |

Hey Todd,
Good question.
'Officially' a mitt can only be used only at first, pitcher and catcher positions. A glove must be used at all other positions and may be used at the first, pitcher and catcher positions.
In ORCRSL and RHFMSL, many players shift positions as you do thus asking an individual to have both a glove and a mitt would be unreasonable. It gets costly.
I have asked most of the umps to allow mitts or gloves at any position as I do not feel there is any significant advantage.

I agree. There are advantages and disadvantages of using a larger glove. |
